The lagoon - or swamp - stretches between the businesses along the SW side of Cabarete's only through street, the hills beyond, and thus is responsible for Cabarete traffic jams since it is difficult to buiold a bypass through the lagoon, and for high sales of mosquito repellent away from the beach.
